Finally finished the proposal for my community project -- this is a year-long project for my third year of New Media. I chose to work with the "blog community" since I've been thinking about mapping the location of blog entries for a long time. Check it out.
A little bit of Photoshop-ing but the flowers actually are those colours.
While at the Ontario Science Centre last month, I saw this crazy 3D video for the NASA Mars Rovers that should be landing on the surface in January 2004. It's much better watching it in the IMAX theatre with this entertaining guy from the Discovery Channel narrating it but here's the link so you can enjoy it in the comforts of your home. (Note that there's several versions... while I hate RealPlayer, I would watch that one since it's got a music score for it.)
RESFEST, a digital video festival, starts tonight at the Royal Cinema (on College Street in Little Italy) and goes until Sunday. Put on by res magazine, there should be a good mix of stuff.
From the Vegetarian Festival: Mushroom Risotto (.pdf).
Note that step #2 is left hanging... Just mix that stuff into the whole batch before the cheese. If you can't find Arborio rice, Calrose rice or other sticky short-grain rices work just fine. If you're on the cheap side, regular onions are fine to use instead of shallots.
It's been a while since I've heard some live music so I made it down to the Mira Records Mini-Tour at B-Sides. I Am Robot and Proud was humming, QuasiMojo was lovely, and Aidan Baker was tearing up my ears (in a good way though). I give them all my seal of approval so check them out if you're wanting some fresh sounds.
While I was there, I found out that Venetian Snares is playing in Toronto on Nov. 8th! Exciting, I suppose, only if you like messed up IDM music. Though I would actually say that his stuff sounds extremely structured to my ears -- Squarepusher sounds all over the map in comparision.
Irregardless, the flyer is a keeper even if it's not your cup of tea: "Venetian snares is like a movie about giant fighting robots that are operated by the world's greatest kung-fu artists who are specially bred for 'the fight'."
Been reading The Telematic Embrace by Roy Ascott for my Interactivity and Networking class. Came across this interesting 1966 quote from Nam June Paik and thought, "Hey, that's my URL!"
"Cybernetics, the science of pure relations, or relationship itself, has it's origin in karma. ... The Buddhists also say / Karma is samsara / Relationship is metempsychosis."
And for one glorious night downtown... the stars could be seen.
