Pretty Lights

I like LEDs for their simpleness. They don't look very exciting when you see those so-called animations while waiting for the subway train, but given the right touch, they are the most beautiful things. For example...

Bloomberg ICE installation by Klein Dytham Architecture

The Bloomberg installation is probably the closests to what I would like my project to be like. Of course, it's gigantic and uses who knows how many LEDs and infrared sensors so it's definetely out of my budget range.

I like how HeHe handled it by spacing apart the LEDs and covering each of them with a paper cup to diffuse the light.

I'm leaning towards the same idea of spacing the LEDs further apart and covering each with something translucent (to reinforce the "pixel" idea). I think the effect would look great with clear, non-coloured 8mm LEDs (instead of the typically sized 5mm) within a clear (not translucent) plexiglass encasement.

...i would really like to know how the led table works. Their site lists invisble parts. hmm.

It's a mystery to me too. The site actually says "invisible live parts". Water full of tiny, swimming electron organisms?? No clue.
