Best of Blogs (or: There's a book for everything out there)

I was in Indigo today and I saw two books -- almost side by side in the computers section -- that I never would have thought possible to have made it to the book store shelf.

The first was: Geocaching: Hike and Seek with Your GPS.

If you're not familiar with geocaching, it's a kind of high tech scavenger hunt where somebody picks a location and stashes something (hopefully interesting!) there. To allow others to find their "cache", they post the GPS coordinates to a site such as geocaching.com. And because longitude and latitude numbers only tell you so much, there's a certain amount of work involved in order to figure out how to get there -- and to actually uncover the cache.

Seeing this "introductory book" to geocaching is a bit strange to me. I still consider geocaching to be "underground" -- fun for the technophiles -- but it would seem that any subculture eventually gets adopted into the mainstream as we can see with the next book...

Yes, this is actually a compilation of weblog posts... in book format.

Though this does really speak to the literary value of blogging. There are some amazing writers out there and they can apply their wit to any topic under the sun. One of the features was True Porn Clerk Stories that some may remember from a few years back.

Gotta love the internet.
